Amiblu is helping deliver critical wastewater infrastructure for Sydney Water’s Upper South Creek Network Sewer Upgrade, supplying locally manufactured Amiblu Flowtite GRP jacking pipes for major trenchless installations across one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
The Upper South Creek Network Sewer Upgrade is a cornerstone infrastructure project supporting the rapid growth of Western Sydney. Driven by significant residential and employment expansion, particularly in connection with the development of Western Sydney International Airport, the project aims to increase wastewater network capacity for one of Australia’s largest future growth corridors. Existing wastewater and recycled water infrastructure is not sufficient to meet the expected long-term demand, making substantial investment in new sewer infrastructure essential.
Amiblu was selected as a key supplier due to its ability to provide locally manufactured solutions backed by responsive technical support and on-the-ground expertise. For a project of this scale and strategic importance, working with a flexible local manufacturer represented a significant advantage. Competitive pricing and lead times, reliable supply, and close customer collaboration further contributed to Amiblu being awarded multiple stages of the programme. Together with distribution partner Viadux, Amiblu provides local project support throughout delivery and installation.
The overall project comprises approximately 115 km of wastewater pipeline in various pipe materials, installed using a combination of microtunnelling and open-trench construction. To date, Amiblu has been awarded approximately 17.5 km of pipeline supply, with OD 1499 Flowtite GRP jacking pipes making up the majority of the supplied length. Manufactured using filament winding technology, the pipes feature a nominal stiffness of up to SN 100,000 and are engineered to withstand the demanding mechanical loads of large-scale trenchless installation. At the same time, the GRP material offers excellent hydraulic properties, corrosion resistance, and long-term durability for wastewater applications. One of the project’s most remarkable features is the impressive length of the jacking drives, with the longest extending just over 300 m. These demanding drives demonstrate the capabilities of both the specialist installation teams and the high-performance Amiblu GRP jacking pipe system.
As construction progresses, the Upper South Creek Network Sewer Upgrade is creating the wastewater infrastructure required to support new communities, businesses, and continued economic development across Western Sydney. The upgraded network will provide essential sewer capacity for one of Australia’s most important growth regions. By combining local manufacturing, responsive project support, and proven GRP technology, Amiblu is contributing to a resilient wastewater network designed to serve Western Sydney for decades to come.
