High-performance Amiblu Flowtite GRP pipes support next-generation water production facility in Driel.
Demand for drinking water in the Dutch province of Gelderland is expected to increase significantly by 2035, with an additional need of more than six million cubic metres per year. This growth is driven by new housing developments, expanding businesses, and climate change, which is leading to longer periods of heat and drought.
At Fikkersdries in Driel, an important milestone is now being reached in the development of future-proof drinking water infrastructure in the Netherlands. The Fikkersdries water treatment plant site has played a vital role in regional water supply since a water extraction area was discovered there in 1959, on farmland that gave the location its name.
The new project Fikkersdries III not only includes the construction of a state-of-the-art purification facility, but also the renovation and sustainability upgrade of the existing treatment plant. It enables Netherland’s largest drinking water company Vitens to increase its production capacity in response to growing water demand and continue supplying clean and reliable drinking water to thousands of households across the province of Gelderland – all while meeting high environmental and efficiency standards.
As part of this major development, Amiblu is supplying a comprehensive GRP pressure pipe system for potable water transport. Installed in open trench, the system comprises 2,466 meters of pipe in nominal diameters of DN 800 to DN 1200, together with 136 fittings. The pipe system ensures structural reliability and hydraulic performance tailored to the demands of this critical drinking water installation. This choice of Amiblu Flowtite GRP pipes underlines the project’s focus on durability and long service life.
Denys acts as contractor for the GRP pipe system, working closely with planner and designer IA Groep to integrate the pipeline network seamlessly into the overall plant concept. The installation period spans three years, reflecting the scale and complexity of the works. By combining advanced materials with precise engineering and strong collaboration between all project partners, Fikkersdries III represents a forward-looking investment in reliable drinking water supply for generations to come.
