Large-diameter Amiblu Hobas jacking pipes help protect the municipality of Veldhoven from flooding.
In the Gender area near Veldhoven, heavy rainfall during peak periods has repeatedly pushed the local water system to its limits. When the Gender stream is unable to discharge water quickly enough, flooding occurs around the Kempenbaan, threatening the De Run industrial estate and nearby residential areas. To address this challenge, the municipalities of Veldhoven and Eindhoven, the Province of North Brabant and Waterschap De Dommel joined forces to implement structural flood protection measures under the Run–Heers Dommel project.
A central element of the solution is the construction of two large stormwater pipelines that divert excess water from the Gender to the Run stream valley during peak rainfall events. The new pipelines run beneath critical infrastructure, including the Kempenbaan, the industrial estate and the A67 motorway, ensuring safe and controlled drainage without disrupting daily traffic and economic activity in the area.
For this demanding application, Amiblu is supplying 924 meters of Hobas CC-GRP jacking and standard pipes with a nominal diameter of DN 2160. The pipes are designed to withstand high soil and traffic loads while providing reliable long-term stormwater transport capacity. The use of trenchless technology for key crossings minimised surface disruption and ensured precise installation under sensitive infrastructure, while the robust GRP material guarantees corrosion resistance and long service life even under demanding hydraulic conditions.
Combining advanced engineering and regional cooperation, the Run–Heers Dommel project provides a sustainable and future-proof response to increasing rainfall intensity. The new drainage system significantly reduces flood risks in Veldhoven and strengthens climate resilience in North Brabant for years to come.
