GRP Penstocks and Hydropower Pipes

Our promise: Power production with less emissions and more output

With hydropower playing a central role in global renewable electricity, choosing the right plant infrastructure is essential – especially when it comes to pipes. Turning the natural force of water into efficient, long-lasting power requires pipelines that perform flawlessly, even in the harshest conditions.

Amiblu engineers advanced GRP pipe systems that help hydropower plants operate with maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Whatever your project requirements, we deliver fully custom solutions without compromise. Challenging terrain or special design needs? We’ve got it covered.

Lightweight yet extremely robust, our pipes are easy to transport and install in remote areas, while their inherent resistance to UV radiation, frost, and abrasive particles ensures reliable performance for decades. Plus: their exceptionally smooth inner surface reduces head loss, boosts hydraulic performance, and increases the overall energy output.

Advantages

Why choose Amiblu solutions for hydropower

Reliable, long-lasting performance

Corrosion-free, UV-resistant GRP pipes maintain their full structural integrity even in harsh operating environments. Their mechanical properties remain stable in both frost and high temperatures, ensuring maximum energy output without the need for external coatings or intensive maintenance.

Cost-effective installation

Lightweight pipes (around 1/4 the weight of ductile iron) enable simple installation in remote areas without heavy equipment, reducing initial investment and securing a fast ROI with minimal environmental impact.

Engineered for hydropower

Custom-designed pipes for extreme wear conditions and tailor-made fittings made to minimise hydraulic losses and boost plant efficiency. A global technical support team assists from design to installation and commissioning, ensuring reliable performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Our solutions

Designed for every challenge

Penstocks

Amiblu GRP penstocks feature a lightweight, robust composite design with an ultra‑smooth inner surface that ensures minimal head loss and excellent hydraulic performance. Their material properties deliver lower water hammer than other materials, enhancing efficiency and reliability in demanding hydropower applications.

Flowtite Orange

Equipped with an exceptionally durable inner liner, Flowtite Orange is an extremely wear-resistant uniaxial pressure pipe that is designed for highly abrasive and erosive materials (e.g. water carrying sharp-edged stones and large amounts of sand) and high flow velocities.

Flowtite Grey

Highly impact and abrasion resistant, uniaxial pressure pipe with main reinforcement in the hoop direction. It allows for backfill particle size up to 64 mm. This reduces backfill material costs and allows better use of unprocessed backfill materials.

Sand trap

Modular GRP system for filtering solids in small hydropower systems. It prevents sedimentary deposits from building up in the penstock and protects the turbine from excessive wear.
