Amiblu PROX: The Next Step in Sustainable Product Development

For decades, Amiblu has led the way in developing durable and reliable solutions for water infrastructure. At our accredited laboratory in Norway, research and innovation never stop. The latest breakthrough is Amiblu PROX – an advanced, sustainable pipe engineered to significantly cut CO2 emissions across water and energy infrastructure projects.

With Amiblu PROX, we address a key environmental challenge in the industry: reducing CO2 emissions during production. Life cycle assessments show that approximately 80% of a pipe’s total CO2 footprint stems from raw material extraction, transportation, and manufacturing. To combat this, Amiblu PROX incorporates alternative raw materials and eco-conscious production methods – all without compromising on quality. These pipes maintain the exceptional durability and reliability of standard Amiblu GRP pipes.

“Since raw materials and manufacturing contribute the most to a pipe’s carbon footprint, we focused on integrating sustainable alternatives, optimising transportation, and using renewable energy in production,” says Jane Haavaldsen, Director of Product Development and Innovation at Amiblu. “These measures, developed in close cooperation with raw material suppliers and customers, allow us to significantly reduce CO2 emissions—helping both our customers meet sustainability goals and reducing environmental impact globally.”

For full transparency, the CO2 footprint of Amiblu PROX is calculated using Amiblu Product Carbon Footprint declarations. These assessments, based on the ecoinvent 3.10 database and conducted with Umberto 11 software, follow the rigorous methodologies of ISO 14044 and 14067.

Amiblu PROX is already making an impact. In the La Presa de Manises drinking water treatment plant expansion in Spanish Valencia, managed by Global Omnium, the use of PROX pipes resulted in a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to standard Amiblu pipes. This reduction was achieved through a combination of alternative raw materials, optimised transportation logistics, and the use of renewable energy in manufacturing.

Derived from the Latin word proximo, meaning “next,” Amiblu PROX embodies our commitment to taking the next step toward a sustainable future. It signifies proximity to our goals, progress for the planet, and a promise to lead the way in environmental responsibility.
