“At Amiblu, the positive working environment and team spirit make the difference”

Interview with Ruben Queral, Head of Work Preparation at Amiblu Pipes Spain #WeAreAmiblu

What is the pace of work like in a company such as Amiblu?

The pace of work is dynamic, demanding and fast-moving. We work to tight deadlines in an environment that is constantly evolving, which requires a high degree of adaptability, planning and coordination across all departments. This allows us to respond quickly to customer needs without compromising on quality.

At Amiblu, every day brings new challenges that require quick decision-making, effective problem-solving and a strong sense of commitment. While pressure and stress can arise at certain times, teamwork, a positive atmosphere and everyone’s dedication make the pace both motivating and rewarding. It is an environment that encourages continuous learning and professional development.

Describe a typical working day at Amiblu.

No two days at Amiblu are ever the same, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most. I usually start my day quite early, often before most of my colleagues, taking advantage of the quiet morning hours to review emails, organise my priorities and focus on tasks that require greater concentration.

From around 8.30 a.m., the pace quickly picks up with meetings, phone calls, colleagues’ enquiries, document preparation, plant visits and finding solutions to the unexpected challenges that inevitably arise during the day, particularly in collaboration with the production team.

At lunchtime, we take a short break of around 25 to 30 minutes to recharge and enjoy conversations that are not work-related. In the afternoon, I focus on completing any outstanding tasks while responding to new priorities as they arise. Before I leave, I always like to make sure everything is organised and clearly noted so I can pick it up efficiently the following day.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy most about working at Amiblu is the combination of continuous learning, variety and the exceptional people I have the pleasure of working with. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to broaden my knowledge, step outside my comfort zone and continue developing both professionally and personally.

I also greatly value the trust the company places in its people, giving us the freedom to contribute ideas and work independently. Above all, however, it is the positive working environment and the strong sense of teamwork that make the biggest difference. There is always someone willing to help, share their expertise or simply make you smile, making even the busiest days much more enjoyable.

What has been the funniest moment with your department colleagues so far?

To be honest, we laugh every single day, and that makes work so much more enjoyable. It would be impossible to choose just one memorable moment because laughter is simply part of our everyday routine. We spend many hours together, and there are always amusing situations, spontaneous conversations or unexpected moments that help us switch off for a few minutes before getting back to work with renewed energy.

Our Friday afternoon rowing sessions have also given us plenty of great memories. Ultimately, what makes the biggest difference is the friendly, relaxed atmosphere we’ve created together, making even the most demanding days far more enjoyable.

Tell us about a GRP pipes project that you remember for its uniqueness.

After twenty-four years at Amiblu – literally half my life – it is difficult to single out just one project, as I have been fortunate enough to be involved in many unique GRP projects.

Among the most memorable are several stormwater tanks with unusual designs; a project involving the supply of large-diameter pipes for a seawater intake system, where we had to design and manufacture GRP supports for a chlorination line installed inside the pipeline; the on-site manufacture of a remarkable intake tower in Escombreras; and the supply of twenty DN3000 biogas reactors for Antec in Norway.

More recently, I was also able to contribute to a project involving 4.3 km of GRE pipes and fittings for a regasification plant in Germany.

Each of these projects presented significant technical challenges and demonstrated both the versatility of GRP and the ability of our team to develop innovative solutions for even the most demanding requirements.

If you hadn’t become a technical draughtsman, what career would you have chosen?

I would probably have chosen architecture. I’ve always enjoyed art, drawing and design, so a profession that combined creativity with technical expertise would undoubtedly have been my second vocation.

Amiblu has launched an internal transformation process to reduce the environmental impact of its products and improve energy efficiency. What are your thoughts on this initiative?

I believe this transformation process is essential and reflects a responsibility that we share as both a company and a society. Sustainability is no longer optional; it has become a necessity if we want to reduce our environmental impact, use energy more efficiently and contribute to a better future for coming generations.

I greatly appreciate Amiblu’s commitment, which is demonstrated through concrete actions such as the use of renewable energy, the reduction of emissions and waste, process optimisation and the development of more efficient products.

I am also proud to be part of a company that recognises sustainability as a shared challenge and understands that meaningful, long-term progress can only be achieved through the involvement and commitment of all departments.

How would you describe Amiblu in just a few words?

Amiblu is a company where people make the difference. It is a place where innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement are part of everyday life, and where every new project represents an opportunity to learn, grow and excel, always with a strong commitment to people and the world around us.

If Amiblu were a value, it would be…

Without a doubt, it would be commitment. Commitment to people, by fostering an environment of collaboration, trust and growth; commitment to customers, by providing innovative, high-quality solutions; and commitment to the future, through continuous improvement and the determination to turn every new challenge into an opportunity to move forward.

When my workday at Amiblu has ended, you will find me…

After work, you’ll most likely find me spending time with my son, taking him to his activities and playing with him. Around 9.00 p.m., I usually help out at my partner’s business by tidying up, cleaning and preparing everything for the following day.

Whenever possible, I swap my computer for a rowing boat on Friday afternoons, spending some time on the river with a few colleagues to unwind after the working week and enjoy the surroundings.

Weekends are mainly dedicated to my family. Overall, I try to make the most of my time by spending it with the people and doing the activities that matter most to me.

How do you imagine the future, connected to Amiblu?

I try to focus on the present and make the most of every opportunity because none of us can know exactly what the future holds.

That said, I can certainly see myself continuing my journey with Amiblu for many years to come, taking on new projects and challenges that allow me to keep learning, developing and contributing through my experience. The trust the company has placed in me, together with the opportunities it provides for both personal and professional development, strengthens my commitment and motivates me to continue growing alongside an exceptional team.
