Marta Urioste, Health & Safety Specialist Amiblu Pipes Spain

“At Amiblu, sustainability means real actions that improve our processes and products day by day.”

Interview with Marta Urioste, Health & Safety Specialist at Amiblu Pipes Spain #WeAreAmiblu

What is the pace of work like in a company such as Amiblu?
The pace is intense and constantly changing. In QHSE, there are no routine days: you might start the day reviewing indicators and end it managing an incident in the plant or driving a new environmental project. That variety makes the job demanding, but also very stimulating.

Teamwork is also essential. For QHSE to truly work, we need everyone’s involvement: production, maintenance, logistics, quality… When each department contributes its part, the results multiply.

Describe a typical working day at Amiblu.
I usually start the day by reviewing priorities and organising tasks. Throughout the day, I attend meetings with different departments, follow up on ongoing projects – especially those related to waste reduction and environmental improvement – review indicators, visit the plant, and manage preventive actions.

There is also an important part dedicated to analysis and planning, as well as coordinating training sessions and preparing documentation. Continuous follow-up is key to ensuring that initiatives do not remain on paper but become real improvements. The day is usually intense and flies by.

What do you like most about your job?
I’m motivated by knowing that my work has a real impact, both on people’s safety and on the company’s environmental improvement. It’s also a very varied job – it’s impossible to get bored. If I ever think I’m going to have a quiet day, an interesting challenge always comes up, reminding me that in QHSE, the word “routine” doesn’t exist.

And honestly, that constant energy is part of what makes my days so stimulating.

What has been the funniest moment with your department colleagues so far?
In QHSE, we have a very close and trusting relationship within the team. We spend many hours together and, although we work hard and the pace is intense, we always find moments to talk about personal matters as well.

Those small everyday conversations often end with an anecdote or comment that makes us burst out laughing.

Tell us about a GRP pipes project that you remember for its uniqueness.
We are currently preparing a very interesting project with a new type of resin, which represents a significant change in both production and risk prevention. Since it is a different material, several aspects need to be reconsidered: carrying out a specific risk assessment, purchasing adapted personal protective equipment, and training workers on the correct way to handle the product.

This project is unique because it combines technical innovation with a rigorous focus on safety and sustainability. It also has a purpose that especially motivates me: through our work with pipes and water networks, we are helping ensure that everyone has access to a more sustainable and reliable water network. Initiatives like this are what makes working at Amiblu so dynamic and stimulating.

If you hadn’t become a Health & Safety Specialist, what would you have chosen?
Probably a creative job, because new things always catch my attention and motivate me. I enjoy learning, trying different ideas, and facing challenges. These days, I already get plenty of practice with my teenage children who keep me busy, so I end up looking for creative solutions in everyday life as well!

Amiblu has launched an internal transformation process to reduce the environmental impact of its products and contribute to energy savings. What is your opinion about it?
I believe this process is very important and absolutely necessary. Sustainability is not something for the future – it is shaping our decisions and the way we work already today. Reducing CO₂ emissions and the carbon footprint of our products not only improves our environmental impact but also allows us to contribute directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At Amiblu, we are making progress with concrete initiatives like waste reduction projects, optimisation of materials and energy use, and continuous monitoring of environmental indicators. The SDG certification granted by AENOR has allowed us to measure and validate our commitment, and it also provides guidance to continue improving in the future. Every initiative, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to a real reduction of our carbon footprint, creating a tangible impact.

The most positive aspect is that this transformation does not depend on a single department. Sales, production, logistics, quality, maintenance, and engineering must collaborate to ensure that changes are effectively implemented. Only by working cross-functionally can sustainability stop being a theoretical objective and become real actions that improve our processes and products day by day.

How would you define Amiblu in a few words?
Amiblu is a company that combines experience, commitment, and a vision for the future. It is a company that constantly evolves and takes safety and sustainability very seriously. There are always areas for improvement, but what truly matters is that we work every day to progress, learn, and improve, turning every challenge into an opportunity to grow and do better.

If Amiblu were a value, it would be…
Commitment. Commitment to people, to the product, and to the environment.

When my workday at Amiblu has ended, you will find me…
During the week, I try to maintain a routine of exercising, walking my dogs, and enjoying family life with my teenage children. On weekends, I take the opportunity to go out with friends and spend more time with family, whether through short trips, or simply sharing moments together. These moments help me disconnect, recharge, and return to work motivated and ready to face new challenges.

How do you imagine the future, connected to Amiblu?
I imagine consolidating the projects we are currently implementing to improve safety and environmental performance at the factory, ensuring that each initiative has a real and lasting impact. At the same time, I want to continue contributing to launching new projects, because at Amiblu, we never stop evolving and there is always room to improve and learn.
